Sale Smarts Shopping Game

January is the ultimate time for teaching kids how to be sale smart when they shop. Why not turn those sales into “game show” experience that will let your kids showcase their sales smarts in a real world way?
Here’s how …

The day before you play the game give each child an equal bankroll (a few dollars). Say that their task will be to be savvy smart in taking advantage of the after holiday sales to buy one thing they will use and value at a bargain price. Explain that you’ll give them one hour in an agreed upon store to make their choice or give them the option to make the same purchase from a reputable seller online. Let them know that they can save any money they don’t spend.

Say that you’ll participate too. Share that your strategy will be to spend time researching before you leave home. That you will think about things you need or want and that you’ll check online for the best sales prices you can find.

When you return home with your purchases, lay them out and talk about what you bought. Ask questions such as these: What made it a bargain for you? How much did it cost? How often do you think you will use it? So how much would that mean that you paid for each use of what you bought? Which of us do you think got the best bargain?
