When my daughter (17) got her driver's license, after the initial fear, I quickly learned there are many benefits. She offered to drive everywhere and run errands. So, each week I transfer money into her debit card account and give her and my 15 yr old son a grocery list. They began to do the shopping on their own - I told them they had to buy what was on the list, and that they had an additional $25 for whatever snacks they wanted. As they shopped, they had to keep a mental count of what they were spending and they quickly learned how much food really costs, plus the difference between some needs & wants.

What a great way to teach your children lessons about shopping. Have you shared any couponing advice with them yet? My mom taught me from a young age how to stretch my money, and every day I'm thankful for that. My boys are still little, but they already know that coupons are like cash around here!
